DIYU: "Water Me"

Do-it-yourselvers,

The DIYU is still a little seed waiting to be watered. And while I've been doing it myself for the past few months, and I'm sure you all have been doing it yourself, perhaps some doing-it-ourselves could occur in the New Year. Continue to check back for updates, ideas, and plans in the coming months, and have fun doing it yourself over the holidays.

Our next DIYU rendezvous

Being that this is the "summer of Harry Potter" (the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix was amazing and brilliant by the way, and the book The Deathly Hallows will complete the series in the minds of millions and millions of people simultaneously next week), I am all for watching HP and the Sorcerer's Stone to an alternative soundtrack. We could also do dramatic readings of favorite parts from The Deathly Hallows. I am also interested in taking part in a karaoke project. How about this? - Dramatic readings from Harry Potter books replacing the lyrics for karaoke songs? I also remember some talk about taking advantage of the empty and pre-painted gallery. Any ideas? Let's meet sometime before Aug. 9th. Maybe on Thur. the 2nd?

Brainstorming and Stepping Up

Last night's Kickstart Talent Show was a hoot. Elizabeth did French stand-up comedy, Maria learned the Deseret Alphabet, and I learned to sew a maternity dress while Josh acted as judge using an extremely sliding and meaningless scale involving Greek symbols.

After last night's Kickstart Talent Show, we chatted about possible future classes and decided to shift the conversation to the blog. So, let's hear some ideas and find out who will to step up and take the reigns of the next "class." Here are my ideas:

  • Act as participants in Maria's and my karaoke project
  • Take a jogging architectural tour of Colorado Springs
  • Assist with the set-up of the next exhibition at the Gallery of Contemporary Art (August/September) / Learn art handling skills
  • Record fake audio tours for the Fine Arts Center
  • Watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to the audio of Wizard, Dear Readers (the new Harry Potter comes out next month after all)
I have a few others, but that should suffice for now. Anyone else have some ideas?

DIYU Orientation Audio

For those of you who weren’t able to attend Orientation, you’re in luck. We recorded the whole thing so you can catch up with the rest of the class by the time we hold DIYU again (that is yet to be determined). You have two options for your listening/viewing pleasure:

  1. Audio with slide/show just as if you were there / iTunes AAC file (30.6MB)

  2. Audio with no images / MP3 (22.85MB)
