Our next DIYU rendezvous

Being that this is the "summer of Harry Potter" (the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix was amazing and brilliant by the way, and the book The Deathly Hallows will complete the series in the minds of millions and millions of people simultaneously next week), I am all for watching HP and the Sorcerer's Stone to an alternative soundtrack. We could also do dramatic readings of favorite parts from The Deathly Hallows. I am also interested in taking part in a karaoke project. How about this? - Dramatic readings from Harry Potter books replacing the lyrics for karaoke songs? I also remember some talk about taking advantage of the empty and pre-painted gallery. Any ideas? Let's meet sometime before Aug. 9th. Maybe on Thur. the 2nd?

Way to take charge!

Chris, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. Tell me more about this karaoke project of yours. Would it work at the gallery? When is everyone available? Is anyone else a Harry Potter fanatic? Maria?

No, I'm not being sarcastic.

The karaoke project probably wouldn't work at the Gallery because of the acoustics (singing and music and all). But we can find an alternate location.

Our schedules are a little hectic at the moment (at least until August 20). We have family visiting and we'll be out of town for a little while. Don't let that hold you back though.

Just to follow up on my recyling interest, I found out that there are no tours of a recyling plant here. Everything is just loaded up and sent out of state. But I can get a video of the Denver plant that shows the process there, if that would be of any interest to anyone.

On to more interesting topics. I'm open to doing anything...movie, karaoke, readings...all sounds fun. Sounds like we would have to do some work to get everything together..where...music...etc.

It sounds like Chris is saying they would be unavailable until after Aug. 20, so that means no meeting in July?

Hello fellow DIYU students and faculty. Like Chris, I too am busy until the 20th of Aug. Maybe we could schedule something for the last week in August. I like the recycling video idea Elizabeth, and I still like the Harry Potter with alternative soundtrack. I recind my idea for the Harry Potter karaoke however. Chris, could we do the Harry Potter with alternative soundtrack in conjuction with the gallery's movie nights? I haven't seen you advertize one of those for a while.

We could do the Harry Potter but not as a Gallery activity because of screening fees. We can get away with it as a private group of individuals.

We haven't had any film nights in a while because of a lack of crowds at any of our other activities. We do have one film in November and most likely one in January.

I think I'm fine with the last week of August.

What are the chances of reserving the big lecture hall next to the gallery where the "Frozen Dead Guys" day movie was? The flat widescreen that the gallery has would be pretty good too. I suppose that would be easier.

Everyone interested in the viewing should post which nights work for them. As for me, any night in the last week of August works.

Also, if no one else is interested in this particular DIYU activity, we can do something else another time. I wouldn't be offended.

I have the recyling DVD. It is about 10 minutes long. Obviously, we would want to watch another video to supplement.

I don't quite understand the deal about seeing Harry Potter with another soundtrack. I've only seen the first HP movie? So I don't know if I'd be able to appreciate this???? Any thoughts? I am available any night except Wednesday during the last week of August.

Elizabeth, follow the link that Chris has on the last blog post that is about "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Wizard People, Dear Reader". This fellow has made an entirely new soundtrack that is to be played while watching the movie on mute. It looks very funny, and if you have seen the first HP movie, you might appreciate it.

Sounds good to me. I understand now. I would like to see what this guy has done with the soundtrack.

Should we shoot for Aug. 30?

Hey Elizabeth,
I'm glad you're interested! Aug 30th is the Pre-Show Appetizer Lecture at the Gallery, so that won't do. Maybe the 28th, 29th, or 31st though. I'll figure out what we can do as far as a video screen and sound equipment and I'll try to make another post soon letting you know when we can get together and if I can procure a television.

I am free on the 29th and 31st.
I'll wait to hear what works when.
